Calling all Catholic young adults who live downtown

Attention young adults who either attend Saint Mary Cathedral or live near it: YOU ARE INVITED! Please prayerfully consider joining the new and improved young adult ministry(ies) at St. Mary’s. Because of high demand, the parish is in the process of revamping its young adult ministry program to connect young adults (aged 18 to 39) to a faith community. There will be a minimum of one young adult ministry, serving those aged 18 to 30/32, and if there is enough interest, a second young adult ministry serving those aged 30/32 to 39 will also form.

This is where you come in! Please come see what ideas we have to serve you at an informational meeting on Thursday, May 24 at 6:30 p.m. in Bishops Hall. Please feel free to invite any Catholics between the ages of 18 to 39 whom you feel may be interested.

The young adult population of the Cathedral is just at about 25 percent … you make up one-fourth of our congregation! Chances are that if you’re not involved in any other ministries here, you probably don’t know anyone at the church, much less anyone your age.

I, the Cathedral’s director of volunteer ministry, as well as the former leaders of the young adult ministry (Carrie Culpepper and Oscar Valadez) will be leading the meeting on May 24. We will get your opinions at this gathering about your needs, and, as I also have extensive background experience in successfully developing and leading a young adult ministry in Austin, we will share with you what ideas we have to re-launch these ministries, which will aim to serve you and your needs as a young adult parishioner at St. Mary’s.

* Are there people around who share my values?
* How do you meet good people once you’re here?
* What does it mean to be a person of faith today?
* Is there any decent worship around?
* Where can I give some of my time or talent?

Activities for the group include aspects of prayer/spirituality, fellowship and service (Scripture study, service projects for the community, dinners, etc.). This group can be whatever you make it to be!

If you are interested in learning more about the ministry, please contact me, Jen Jones, at (512) 476-6182 Ext. 12. Please share any questions, comments, ideas, etc. We want this to be a group for you to meet new people, have fun and grow in your faith together. I look forward to seeing you at the May 24 meeting!

Your sister in Christ,
Jen Jones †
